Search Engine Optimization Basics - Getting the Content Right

The first time I carried out Search Engine Optimization (SEO) was back in 1998. Back then things were so much simpler than they are now. Essentially all you had to do was put the keywords on the bottom of every page and with little other effort it was inevitable that you would get a substantial amount of traffic to your site.

Nowadays the web is so much larger which effectively means there are more competitor web sites around. However that is only half the story. With the advent of patented technology such as Page Rank, and search engines being more clever about how they undertake indexing and attributing importance to each page, life is a lot more complicated.

However it should be remembered that many of the methods used (or assumed to be used as most search engine companies keep their methodologies a closely guarded secret) have one purpose in mind, to give results to the user that the user will find useful and relevant.

With that in mind, it should be blatantly obvious to any person, especially a so called expert, that website content is going to be the most significant factor. If you think and contemplate this fact for a while you will realise that no matter how many articles you write, how many social networking links you create, if the target site has no content then you are not going to rank anywhere, if indeed your pages get indexed.

However it is not just content that search engines like and love to index, it's specifically original content. The mechanics of search engines nowadays involve removing a lot of duplicated content from their indexes. Back in the late 90's it was quite common for a search query to produce search results from different sites all containing almost exactly the same content. Nowadays, the first ten search results will differ as identical pages are removed from the main indexes. So if you want your site to rank well the conclusion is that not only do you need good content for your website, you need original content.

Only once you have created original content for your website can you really start thinking about Search Engine Optimization techniques and the rules to follow. The first of these rules is surprisingly frequently broken by people with little experience - making sure that all page on the site can be indexed by web search engines spider. Next is making sure that the text on the page is readable. Many web designers who come from a graphic design background place the text into an image file. The reason behind this is that it saves the designer worrying about having to create the style and layout they want using html and CSS. Whilst the site may look nice, the major issue with this is that search engines don't read the text in images (although undoubtedly this will change in future as text recognition software becomes more flexible and accurate).

If you concentrate on the content as the first part of an SEO campaign you will find that you will be a long way down the road to success rather than struggling with an uphill battle.

Search Engines Are Driven to Sites Based on Keywords

Dear Friend,

Keywords are used to in order to get attention by the search engine. When a search engine is driven to a site, a keyword is the reason it is. Due to this system, it has offered a lot of opportunity for people who want to use keywords to get people to their site. However, due to the overuse of these keywords it has also caused a lot of abuse as well.

In an effort to stop this abuse, search engines have designed an algorithm method where web crawlers can take a look at certain keywords and then determine if they are actually relevant.

Due to this, many people who are looking to get more traffic have used the method of article marketing to help them do so. With article marketing, you simply write articles that have useful content and strategically place keywords throughout the article. This can help generate much more traffic to your site, but the article must be informative to be effective.

Search engines usually gauge by looking at the beginning of the content. You need to make certain your best content may be in the first few paragraphs if you are looking for a short cut, but it is much more advisable to have the entire article be loaded with informative information that can help the reader.

It is ultimately best to write an article that can pass any search engines test. When you do not compromise the quality if your article, you have a much better chance of not only making a sale but increasing traffic to your site as well.

The Internet is growing each and every day and in this process there have been more need for laws to be enforced in order to make it not only a safer place but a more productive one.

Such as the case in most things, honesty is the best policy and you can be certain to be much more effective in your SEO efforts when you follow the rules that have been set by making your keywords appropriate in density as well as an article that is well written.

To your success

P.S. Be certain to take the advice and put it to use to help you have the best results in your SEO efforts.

The Advantages of Long Tail Keywords

Search engine optimization and the manner in which people search on the internet are evolving so fast that books on the subject can be outdated before they make it to print. One area in particular is the extension of single and two-word keywords into the optimization long tail keywords or key strings. In

many instances optimizing for one or two keywords can have several disadvantages. Among them are:

* They can be too general in nature- The term "mortgage" has loads of traffic but the term is not targeted toward anything specific. This keyword could cover someone looking to take out a loan, do a mortgage modification, or someone looking for a mortgage calculator.

* The competition for keywords can be intense - With high levels of competition, getting to the front page of the organic section of search engines can be a long and costly endeavor. Upon getting to the front page you'll still have a generic and untargeted visitor.

* Pay Per Click's can use up a monthly budget in a heartbeat - Highly competitive keywords have become very pricey. All of the top 50 keywords cost $50 or more according to spyfu.com. It's expensive and extremely frustrating to be paying that kind of money when you've got visitors bouncing back off of your site after being on it for less than ten seconds.

Longer key strings will not carry as much traffic but they do have distinct advantages such as:

* A longer keyword decreases competition and defines the searchers purpose to the point where you can anticipate their need and offer content that will greatly enhance your chance at conversion. A phrase like "loan modification mission viejo ca" is very focused. A searcher clicking through that finds that you have what they're searching for is highly likely to convert.

* Competition is decreased - It will be much easier and more cost effective to move up in page rankings. Being on the front page for 20 targeted key phrases will be much more advantageous than one front page listing for a generic term. A variety of long tail keywords can dominate specific small niches, providing less traffic but a much higher conversion rate.

* Pay per Click - Pay per Click becomes much more manageable if clicks aren't costing you fortune, especially if the click through's are converting.

It's easy to guess at a few keywords and assume that a website is optimized for them. This is area, however, where some research can go a long way toward determining the long term success of a website. The right key phrases will both make and save you money. Unless you're "fluent" in search engine optimization, having a pro do the research on key phrases that will drive targeted traffic to your site will be one of the best business investments you are likely to make.

4 Things to Never Expect From Your SEO Consultant!

One of the major issues that an SEO consultant faces is attending to the client's expectations. The client, for one reason or another, almost always expects more than can be done in the given timeframe and price.

The problem with SEO consultants is that they have a dilemma: They can either promise extremely optimistic results and then under-deliver or they can undersell and then overperform. If the SEO consultant under-delivers, he gets the project in the beginning but by the end of the project, loses the client's trust. If he over-delivers by first underselling, chances are that he will have a diffcult time getting the project in the first place.

While there are many SEO companies out there, they mainly provide benchmarks in terms of ROI, traffic, rankings and sales. The issue with these benchmarks is that most of them are not under the control of the SEO consultant. It would be wise to look at the points below so you know what NOT to expect from an SEO consultant. It will also help you make more sense of your SEO campaigns.

Here are some tips of what not to expect from an SEO consultant:

1. Never expect a certain ranking: The majority of SEO package buyers "want a certain ranking for a certain keyword in a certain timeframe for a certain price". It just cannot be done. Even though it is implied and might even be written in the contract in print that an SEO consultant does not have a direct influence on rankings, clients mostly gauge progress by rankings. Do not use rankings as a measure because it is subject to Google algorithms as well as a thousand other variables and it is outside the power of your SEO guy.

2. Never expect a one-time SEO: The majority of off-site SEO is recurring i.e. it needs to be undertaken from time to time. Even on-site SEO needs maintenance when you optimize for new keywords and change the layout of your website. Most clients expect a one-time SEO job to take care of all their rankings and their traffic etc. This simply is not possible.

3. Never expect the cost to be set in stone: The costs of SEO packages change because your rankings and competition changes (as well as the algorithms). A lot of buyers out there do not look kindly upon an increase in price to accommodate more competitive keywords etc. The price an SEO consultant charges is proportionate (in a reasonable manner) to the amount of work which needs to be done.

4. Never expect a quick ROI: Some clients check their website statistics every 4 hours after the SEO campaign is undertaken, hoping to see a drastic increase in rankings, a flood of traffic and an endless supply of cash in their bank accounts. Even the best SEO practices take weeks to take effect, so give it some time.

People have suffered financially and emotionally, in fact in the last 2 years a lot has changed and people have learned to survive but now when there is a turn around, are you ready to make the most of it?

Oh yes!

The jobs are coming back and the share markets are booming as well, people have again started to make money. So what are you waiting for?

An opportunity! A suggestion! An idea!

You are not yet ready for the turn around, you have got used to recession and survival to such an extent that you are finding it difficult to make the most of the times to come.

It's the time you need unique business solutions to help your business flourish and grow. One of the most talked about ways is to get a worldwide audience for your business. You can virtually make money from anyone across the globe.

A florist in Alaska, I know, has a lot of clients in Middle East (Asia), in fact he charges a premium from them and still is able to make money.

What does he do?

Well, guess what, he does exactly the thing that other florists do, sell flowers but he has given his business a new dimension. He has a website that is on top of the search engines (at least the last time I saw it) and offered services of delivering flowers to people in Alaska and orders were placed from across the globe.

Now, the idea is a little old but this happened sometime back, almost when we were hit with RECESSION.

So, what makes such businesses successful?

Your answer: A website!

Correct answer: Visibility, having a website is not everything but it is about ensuring that the website is correctly marketed and promoted, or you may just have an online presence but it should be visible to your target audience.

It's high time you made the most of this turn around and with effective SEO solutions you have a great chance! Be prepared for the change or let the change be prepared for you!

6 Things That High Ranking Websites Have

When it comes to making your website search engine optimized, there are quite a few things that can be done to get more visitors and a higher rank for your site:

1. Exclusive page titles: Unique and non similar page titles are quite significant when it comes to ensuring that your website gets featured prominently in the search engines. The HTML tags of your pages indicate the essence of your website and make it possible for the search engine robots to crawl it more effectively.

2. Keyword Links: Search engines are able to look up web pages by linking and interconnecting them with other web pages. If the pages have specific keywords, then it becomes easier to give the page a better rank in terms of the keyword search.

3. Keywords in the pages: It is quite imperative to include well researched keywords on your web pages so that the SEO rank of your site becomes better. After all, it is the keywords that form the basis on which visitors look for sites, and on which the concept of search engine optimization is based.

4. Clean website design: You should not have too heavy or disorganized form of website that hinders SEO. Too many graphics are also a hindrance. It's best to get professional advice and help to make your content and the entire site SEO friendly.

5. Targeted content: Your website cannot be everything to everyone as that would make it too diffused and messy. It's always best to know which audience you are targeting and to go about catering in a focused manner to it. This also greatly improves your website rankings.

6. Relevance of links: One must be careful of the relevance and quality of content of websites and web pages that link to your site. This enhances your page's ranking and also makes your site more relevant and useful to your reader.

Following these useful tips as mentioned above can help your website get better ranks.

It's Tough Identifying an SEO Content Service That Really Knows the Right Way to Compose Articles

As a reliable article service I get a great many different requests from companies for search engine optimized articles, optimized content and successful press releases. But what strikes me most of all is the proportion of people who still demand keyword stuffing. Writing a professional article for submission to an article directory is one thing - but hurling every potential alternative of your keyword into every line is quite another.

Whether such people just have their own assumptions, or have used less reliable article writing services beforehand I don't know. But I just don't write articles for businesses knowing absolutely the damage that they could cause if not written correctly.

It's true that there once was a time when filling your websites full of keywords was effective. In fact, just adding as many permutations of related keywords and phrases as possible into the keywords meta tag was almost sufficient to get you to the top of the search results pages. But this was a brief time thank goodness, and the search engines picked up on it very quickly. Google immediately dismissed the keywords meta tag and has never paid it any attention since.

But even more than this, today search engines frown upon sites who overuse keywords, and creating what you think is an optimized article, but which is actually little more than a thesaurus entry, will be likely to cause great harm to your site. Demotion is the very least that you can expect, but you also run the risk of being blacklisted if you take it too far.

So how do you know how many keywords to include? There are theories that 5% is about right, but this is ludicrously dangerous. In a 500 word article, a keyphrase such as 'article writing service' would need to appear 25 times. If each sentence was about 20 words long, that would mean that every single sentence would have to include the phrase 'article writing service'. Quite apart from what the search engines would make of your writing, imagine how ludicrous it would seem to a human!

Even 2% density is taking a risk, since you'd still be talking about including your phrase in every third sentence or so, and the search engines will still pick up on this quite easily. It seems, therefore, quite difficult to know what sort of density to aim for. This is essentially the problem. Any article service that is still droning on about ideal keyword densities is stuck in the past. Today we are fortunate that such warped ways of writing are over, or at least being actively discouraged by the search engines.

So if it isn't keyword density anymore, what is it? There are two simple answers - quality and semantic language. The first of these is relatively easy to understand. Writing well, using good quality English, having something to say and saying it well will make sure that your work is seen, read and promoted.

At the end of the day it is not simply the search engines you should be aiming to please. If real people see your articles, and find them suitable, then you are more likely to find your articles syndicated, published elsewhere and linked to from more websites. The rules of most article directories are clear - syndication and reproduction is fine, as long as the author's resource box or links are kept intact. This allows people to use your article within their own websites, but as they must credit you, links to your web pages will also be included - generating more backlinks, more votes for your site and helping it rise up through the search results lists.

With reference to the other idea - semantic language, this is more misunderstood than keyword density, and will require a subsequent article at least to discuss and explain. But in brief, any article service that tells you that keyword density is necessary is stuck in the early part of this decade, and any article writing service that expounds writing semantically should also be avoided - since this is little more than keyword density by an alternate name.

Top of Google in 24 Hours!

For anyone that is marketing any product or service on the internet, you must know that traffic is key in order to earn money. No matter what product or service that you are providing, if no one knows or no one can find your website it will not do you a whole lot of good.

Getting traffic to your site can be as easy as A,B,C or in can be so intricate that it causes you to pull your hair out attempting to get it. There are only two real solutions to solve the issue.

1. Pay For Traffic - There are a number of companies that anyone can pay to market their website. Advertising can range from banner ads, to search engine submission or even doing a pay per click campaigns. All of these avenues can be affective, however if your advertising budget is small, these strategies can by somewhat costly.

2. Generate Traffic - There a many different ways to generate traffic to your website. Accessing social networks/websites are by far the best way to get a jump start in introducing individuals to what you have to offer. Most social networks are completely free to join and it allows you to get your website in front of many people with just a few clicks of a button. Learning these techniques for yourself is one of the best investments that any person can make, as it will generate sales for your business.

Most social networks can get your website ranked in Google overnight. The more networks that you are associated with, the more traffic you receive. I suggest that if you are attempting to get masses of people in front of your business, that you join as many network sites as possible, set up a profile and provide valuable information about your product or service and how it can help others. No who is your target market so that you can cater your content for those who will be interested in what you have to offer.

Lastly, even though using social networks are free, it doesn't automatically mean you will generate sales. You must consistently provide information as well as always be adding to your network. Every week you should provide content, videos or articles about your website or service. Follow-up with those that are interested and watch the sales grow through the roof!

Google Top Listing - 3 Steps to a Top Listing on Google

Most people know that getting your website listed on the first page of Google is an absolute must if you want to get significant traffic to your site. However most people have no idea how to do this. You can pay a lot of money to get a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) company to do it for you, but in most cases this is not necessary.

With a little effort you can easily get your site listed on the first page of Google for next to nothing and enjoy the benefits of a constant stream of targeted traffic to your website. I have done this many times for my own, and many friends and colleagues' websites. If you follow the steps below you can't go wrong.

So what are the basic steps you need to take?

1) Find the best search terms to get listed for.

This step is often overlooked but is actually the most important step. It's no use getting a top listing on Google for a search term that nobody uses. Likewise a top listing for a search term that isn't totally relevant to your site isn't going to do you any good, no matter how many people are searching on it.

Google has a tool that allows you find out the number of people who are searching on any given word or phrase. You can then find the phrases that are a) highly relevant to your site and b) will attract the most searches.

To access this tool simply type "Google keyword tool" into Google and click on the top listing.

Note: Try to pick the less competitive keywords. The are often the ones that contain 2 or 3 words. They will be much easier to get a top listing Google for. The "advertiser competition" bar in the left hand column of the Google keyword tool gives you an idea of this.

2) Pepper your website with the phrases you identified above.

This step is called "on-page optimization" and tells Google which search terms to list your website for. You must limit the number of search terms you want to get a top listing for to 2 or 3 per page of your website.

The 3 most important places you must include your key phrases are

- Your URL (website Address) eg. yourkeywords.com/more-keywords-here

- Your title tag. This is a simple piece of HTML code that's located in the "head," or top, of your Web page.
Within the source of your web page, it looks something like this:
{title}Insert keyword-rich site description here{/title}

If you don't know how to edit your website your web designer can change your title tags very easily.

- Your website copy - placing your keywords throughout the text in your website is vital if you want a top listing for those keywords.

3) Get links pointing to your website from other relevant and high ranking websites

Getting links to your site is essential for getting a top listing. This tells Google that your site is popular and valued by other sites. But it's not the number of links that is the most important factor. It's the quality of the links. Quality links come from sites that have a high listing in Google themselves and are relevant to your site. Its no good getting links from low ranking sites or sites that have nothing to do with yours. This can actually hurt your ranking.

The 3 best places to get links from are:

- Directory sites that relate to your subject - do a search using the word "directory" and your keywords to find these.

- Article sites: These are sites where you can publish informative articles about your subject and get a link back to your site. Google values these links very highly. The best article submission site is ezinearticles.com.

- Online discussion forums and groups that relate to your subject. Post a useful comment on a forum and use your website link as signature. Do not overtly promote your website here though as you may get banned from the forum and get your posts removed.

Note:

Google may take a few weeks to register your links and push you up the listings. If you have followed all the steps above just keep adding links and you will see your site move up to the top of the listings.

Drive Targeted Visitors to Your Website With an SEO Report

Are you looking to increase relevant and targeted visitors to your website?

A search engine optimisation report will analyse your website; looking at where improvements can be made to increase your websites position in the search engines. A higher position in the search engines equates to more traffic.

There are two core areas that an SEO report analyses; on-site and off-site.

On-site SEO assesses how your website is constructed. There are many standards that search engines look for in a website; HTML, CSS and JavaScript languages must all be written to strict standards for compliancy.

If these high website standards are not met then your competitors may gain an advantage over you. You could run a the report on your competitors and compare that report to your own websites report to find out where your competitors weak points are.

Off-site SEO assesses how poplar your website is. The more relevant website thank link to yours, the more popular your website is. The Google PageRank algorithm calculates how many relevant websites link to yours and positions your website in the search engine results accordingly.

An SEO report will calculate your PageRank, determine how many websites link to yours and evaluate the importance of the websites linking to yours.

Every aspect of your website that is analysed, both off-site and on-site, will be reviewed in-line with your keywords. After all, it's the keywords that users will search for and land on your website.

An SEO report is also a very good way of measuring any alterations to your website before and after commencing optimisation. Since an SEO report will measure all aspects of your website and it's completely free to run the report. Why not run the report on your website monthly to see is progress is being made?

To download your completely free, custom tailored SEO report simply go to Instant-SEO-report.com.

New SEO Black Box

The New SEO Black box is the latest piece of software to add to your SEO arsenal of tools. It aims to boost traffic by achieving a number of things namely:

1. analysing your competitors for particular search engine keywords.
2. analysing the links of your competitors.
3. submitting your site to authority pages.
4. submitting your related articles to article directories.

All of this is is aimed to boost your SEO page ranking, improve your visibility, generate more traffic and ultimately beat your competitors.

The true value of the system is not just in the use of keywords and optimising your webpage, but is in the identification and generation of back links to your site. By mimicking your competitors and doing just a little extra, you can easily outdo them on any search engine.

When Google first came about, many of the SEO tips and trick revolved around keywords. If your site had popular keywords and was relevant to the searchers enquiry, then your page got boosted and ranked higher than other pages that weren't quite as relevant to the searchers enquiry. Over the years though, Google's algorithms have changed (and the other search engines have followed) and now place a greater emphasis on links and back links, particularly to 'authority sites', listing on web directories and so on. In actual fact, SEO has much less to do with the keyword than the general population is led to think.

The challenge though for any budding SEO entrepreneur is finding the time to do all of this work and still maintain balance in ones life. This is where software can play an enormous part in your SEO development. Software such as the New SEO Black Box (which uses SEO Elite software) is invaluable, because it saves you a massive amount of time by practically automating the process. It will search your competitors sites for links, assess link quality, identify site owners so you can email them and have your site added to their list, submit articles to a large number of article directories and so on. In fact the only thing the software doesn't do, is make you a cup of coffee. (there are some things you still have to do yourself!).

Without this software, I can say that I would still be up at all hours if the night and day, probably for a few weeks, manually entering links, articles and so on. With this tool, I can practically spend an hour (perhaps 2 hours tops) and have achieved a few weeks of work in the space of a few hours. Automating SEO couldn't be easier.

Trust Your SEO Company With Your Eyes Open

In business we have to trust our service providers. SEO companies are our gateway to online success. But it's a good idea to keep a tab on what they are doing on our websites. Remember in the online world the website is your business store and you wouldn't want a wrong description or profile projected! Or worse you wouldn't want to be taken for a ride after paying those dollars!

Ask them for a keyword list and make sure that they get them right.

This is important. Take time off for it or you'll spend five times over trying to rectify the error. You may not know what words your potential customers are using in search engines to try and find a business like yours. That's why you've hired a SEO company in the first place. But instead of appearing stupid.

- Ask them for examples of your competitor's sites

- Ask them for a keyword list.

- Select a mixture of keywords. Remember that the single word keyword will be the toughest to optimize for and they may not be the most suitable. Though there may be 5040 searches for 'insurance' per day there is no point in spending money optimizing for it. 'Auto Insurance', or 'health insurance' may be more suitable. Some thing like 'dental insurance' may be more specific. However, "call center" (treated as one word) can result in huge business.

- Ask them the difficultly level of keywords. 45% or less are relatively easy to optimize for and higher the difficulty, the toughness of optimization increases.

- Ask your SEO company to prepare a list of existing web pages on your website which target suitable keywords. That way you will know which page targets what keywords and how many more pages of content will be needed on the website.

So you get to control the costs.

Your chance of appearing at the top of search engine results is greatly enhanced if you focus your website optimization efforts on two/three word phrases instead of single words.

Check your webpage title

Now that you know what phrases which webpage is targeting check the title of the l page. You can view it in the top browser bar when you open your website. Your page title on your home page is the biggest indicator to search engines of what your website is all about. The page title originates in the Meta Tags, which are not displayed in the normal view of your website. - A page title should be between 10 to 60 characters long including spaces. - It should preferably be in the format main keyword, sub keyword, brand name Remember that the company should optimize each page title on each page to get the best result. A random check is sufficient.

Get the Description Right

The description that appears below your URL in Google search engine is the metatag description that was included in the source code of your page. The Description should contain an enticing and informative snapshot of what the website is about and it should appeal to all search engines to appear. While Google takes a page description of 150 characters, MSN often takes the initial 100 characters from the Meta Description. The description should make sense, convey all relevant information about the web page and entice the reader to read the page. It is also worthwhile placing one related keyword phrase within the Meta Description. If possible add a phone number in the description metatag.

Web Page Names

If your SEO Company is a genuine company, they will most probably get it right. But step in here to ensure that the most important pages of your website can be told over the phone. After all it's you and your team who will conduct the business. It should not be too long to fit in the business card. There are times when it is technically not possible. Ask them for a redirect.

Let People Find You

Add your contact number and office address prominently. Let people know that you have an office space. Give visitors a number to enquire for business.

Consideration for the Media

You may not be a big company right now, but as your business grows and your brand becomes recognizable the press may decide to follow you. Create a media corner. Put all your press releases, speeches and videos over there all at one place. Keep adding the latest press release to the site. Post your press release on the site a day or two earlier that the official press release.

Some Questions to Ask Your SEO Company To Keep Them On Their Toes

What 'H' Tags are you using? H Tags or 'Heading Size' were originally introduced to aid the formatting of HTML documents. Because their presence indicates page heading with larger text, many search engines have decided to count this as a significant part of their ranking. Websites should not be designed just for their look and feel. Equally they should not be designed only for search engines. However, with a bit of thought and creativity, web pages can be built with both visitors and search engines in mind.

Are you using the keyword in Alt Tags? Alt tags short form for Alternative Tags were originally designed to contain the text to be displayed on web pages instead of images if a user's computer did not have the capacity to be able to display images. Alt Tags on images provide a great way of getting your keywords near the top of your pages without reducing your website readability. Alt Tags can also positively impact your internal website keyword linking. For a website to be successful, you have to create a new site entrance by adding Alt Tags to each image to appeal to search engines more effectively. With this, not only you are appealing to more users by using Alt Tags to your images, you will also be complying with website design standards for disabled users of your site.

Is the site navigation in text? As said earlier if your SEO company is genuine they will insist on text navigation and even navigation without menu. Generally, websites have their navigation links on the top or side of each web page. Unfortunately, many website navigation menus are image based. This means that search engines often won't spider the linked pages as they do with text-based menu links.

Are you using the keywords to link to webpages? In technical parlance the phrases used to link to a particular webpage is called anchor text. They are given a lot of importance by search engines

Are all pages on the website linked by some page? Is the internal linking 100%? Well, we do not like loose ends, neither do search engine because they have been made by human. Make sure all the pages on your website can be reached by some page.

Work In Tandem

No SEO company can work effectively in isolation. They need your feedback, your suggestions (off and on). Ask for a monthly report to check your website's keyword progress. Remember SEO is a long drawn process. Competitive keywords may be harder to optimize for. Once you reach page 1, the progress becomes slower. If you have found a good company all you have to do off and on is an occasional nip in the toes to ensure there is no scope for complacency.

How to Increase Your Traffic With SEO Tools

To begin with you will need to know your Alexa Ranking and that of your competitors. This will give you a starting point and let you know where you are in relationship to your competition.

Use StatCounter. This is a free tool that will help you keep track of your visitors and where they are coming from both geographically and from which sites they are coming from. This way you will know where you concentrate your efforts based off of what's working and what's not.

Use sitemaps. Sitemaps make it easier for search engine bots to crawl your site in order to find the information for how to index them. This will generally, but not always help your site to rank higher in the search engines. Google can help you to set up a free site map when you submit to their search engine.

Check the number of incoming links that you have. The more links that you have the higher you will rank in the search engines. Use the tool at seopro.com.au/free-seo-tools/link-checker/ to find out how many incoming links you have. This will also give you a ranking of the quality of the link that you have coming into your site. The higher the number the better.

Check keyword density. Go to seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword-density. This tool tells you if you have the optimal number of keywords in your copy.

Improving Google PageRank

Many SEO (search engine optimisation) savvy people get caught up with measuring Google pagerank. It was once thought to be an important key in establishing high Google rankings. I prefer to interpret Pagerank as an indicator of Google's perception of a pages authority within the web. I recommend focusing on overall SEO strategy and Pagerank will naturally rise along with rankings.

Pagerank is one of around 200 factors the Google algorithm takes into account when ranking a web page. It is a numerical index rating pages from zero to ten, ten being the highest possible score. Pagerank is believed to be continuously updated by Google, however public approximations are able to be viewed in web browsers via the Google toolbar. These values are updated at irregular intervals, but usually around tri-monthly.

So let's examine some factors that will improve SERP's (Search Engine Ranking Positions) and Pagerank.

1: Content

You're probably tired of hearing about the importance of content. Yet it is important today as it ever was, perhaps more so as a lot of flash and jazzy effects permeate the web. Google obviously examines content when determining Pagerank. Therefore, one of the greatest techniques toward improving pagerank is to simply make sure your pages contain quality textual content. Of course the content should be original and relevant to the topic of the site.

Recommendations vary on the ideal length of text to include on one page. 800 words seems a reasonable balance between content and brevity. I believe there would be negligible benefit in terms of PR from pages with over 2000 words of content. However, at least 400 words is probably a good baseline to establish topic and a healthy page content vs page coding ratio.

If the content is written well your keyword should naturally appear in the prose of the page. Be sure to include your keywords in the page title and headings.

2: Inbound links

One of the predominant factors determining rankings and Pagerank are incoming to your web page. Google assumes that there must be a reason for a link to exist to your page and counts a link as a vote of confidence in the content quality of your page.

Links from high authority sites on your topic (high ranking / high PR pages) carry a far greater weight than links from sites virtually unknown to Google - or from pages/sites that have nothing to do with your site and page content.

3: Quick Links

A quick way to have Google index your site is to link to your website from a forum or regularly updated blog. These links are not likely to carry a great amount of weight, but every little helps and if you choose your forums and blogs well, the results do accumulate. Try and make your posts on topic and informative and confine your links to signatures and your profile.

4: Articles

Articles are a very successful way of gaining credibility with Google and your human audience. Most article sites do not allow you to insert your own links into the body of your article. However you can author a persuasive author footer with a link to your site. There are plenty of good article sites that can be found with a quick Google search for "articles". Another good resource to look at is http://www.associatedcontent.com.

Conclusion

Follow a structured SEO plan of building quality content and obtaining quality in bound links and you will see improvements in your rankings and your Pagerank.

SEO is Not Everything Anymore!

SEO is NOT Everything Anymore As a web design and Internet marketing firm, we have seen our spam catching email server pulling in a lot of junk mail with promises of Number One rankings on Google from places outside of the United States. Don't get me wrong - there are a LOT of good SEO specialists in other countries and many great web developers abroad, but what I am talking about are SEO con-artists.

These so called "SEO Experts" usually are found filling out a company contact form because they do not want to be known for their real identity. Also, we noticed that nearly every scam uses a free e-mail service such as Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, gMail, or other free public mail system.

Nobody Should Guarantee Number One Rankings That's right! Nobody. Why? Because nobody can control how a search engine delivers page rank. Do you need proof? Search the Google Webmasters index to find out what Google has to say about number one rankings.

Google alone has well over 186 different factors that determine page ranking and nobody truly knows how they work because search engine companies heavily guard their secrets. There are ways you can trick a search engine for good results but those "black hat seo" techniques will get your website banned. Most of these "unknown companies" who promise number one rankings must use black hat seo techniques because how else would someone from another country know your local surroundings to give you good SEO rankings? If these people were really SEO specialists, where is their website? Where is their proof? We have seen companies come from nowhere to achieve top rankings only to find out later they are soon nowhere to be found. Do you really want to put your business at risk?

SEO is Only Part The Equation First of all, let us say this - "SEO IS IMPORTANT" but it's not everything anymore. Just like our title says. In order to truly have great rankings and be competitive, you have to use more than just SEO to achieve good rankings. While SEO used to be the number one determining factor, it's not the only thing that search engines use to qualify your website as "front page material."

Five Factors Now Qualify Your Website

1. SEO is one of them and SEO can ONLY come from having quality content.
2. Having other websites link to yours is an important factor as well. By having quality inbound links that lead to your website, or as the industry calls them, "Back-links" a search engine will compare these links to the category of your site. If you are a resident expert in your field, it's a good idea to have quality content that other websites can benefit from. This is why Blogging has been such a buzz word for the past several years.
3. Linking to other sites - also known as outbound links. It will benefit your website to have links that go out to other websites which are related to the products you sell or the services you provide.
4. Pay Per Click Campaigns - having a good pay per click campaign is optional if you have a product with little competition but when you supplement good SEO with a solid pay-per-click campaign, your spending on paid click advertising will be kept to a minimum. Especially since sites like Google, encourage keywords campaigns that link to highly relevant content!
5. Websites should never just sit. If you have a niche market, you can enjoy having a website that sits for months or maybe a couple of years at the top of the search engine results page but if there is money to be made, someone else is going to want to cash in on your success. It's just business - It's called competition. By keeping content updated and fresh, you give search engines a reason to continuously keep checking up on your site. It's that phrase, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." Think about it!

Smart Search Engines Look For Quality Pages Search Engines are smart and they keep getting smarter. Top search engine companies want your searches to return quality content. By having quality rich content on your website with acceptable practices for SEO - you can't lose. Fall victim to promises of overnight success and you will find that your success will be short lived.
